Day 2
Jim Thompson House
James Harrison Wilson Thompson was born in 1906 and after a stint in the army (OSS or former CIA) he came to Thailand and established the Thai Silk Company( he established, saved a dying craft and transformed it into a world-class designer brand - the Thai silk industry is often cited as one of the great success stories of postwar Asia. )
Thompson disappeared while on holiday with friends in Cameron Highlands, a northern Malaysian resort. An extensive and extended search failed to reveal any clues about his disappearance. He was 56 at the time. One of the stories about him is that he was a spy! Pictures were not allowed to be taken inside his home. The carvings are pretty amazing and he redesigned Thai homes by attaching them, creating 'rooms' for an extended home.
WAT SUTHAT
A 'Wat' is a temple and there are about as many in any given area as there would be bars in a major city. Each carries it's own history and is unique. Wat Suthat is one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok also known for it's huge golden Buddah. The temple's main Buddha image was brought by river to Bangkok sometime around the late 1700's.
